Glass balustrades are the solution for any space that calls for safety without an obstructed view. They are installed on terraces, balconies, staircases and galleries, and are made to the dimensions and requirements of your building. We offer a range of systems, glass types and fitting finishes, so that the balustrade suits the space both technically and visually.
Our balustrades come in four basic systems.
The glass is fixed along its entire length in an aluminium U-profile, with elastomeric packers that centre the glass in the profile and absorb installation tolerances. The embedment depth and profile dimensions are determined by the balustrade height and the calculated load. The system requires no additional vertical supports, giving a clean, uninterrupted line.
The glass is held by individual stainless steel point fixings (spiders), mounted through precisely drilled holes in the pane. The number, layout and dimensions of the fixings are calculated according to the size of the pane and the load it is exposed to, giving the most open, minimalist look possible.
The glass is mounted between or onto vertical posts (stainless steel or aluminium), set at calculated intervals along the entire length of the balustrade. The system is particularly suitable for longer spans and exterior areas exposed to higher loads.
The glass is secured with individual metal brackets mounted directly onto the load-bearing structure — floor, stairs, landing or steel edge — with no drilling of the glass and no profile along the full length. The system is most often used on staircases, where the balustrade follows the pitch of the flight, and the number and layout of the brackets are calculated according to the balustrade height and load.
In all four systems, the balustrade is built either with a handrail (stainless steel, aluminium or wood) or as a self-supporting structure. We offer a wide choice of fittings and brackets in various designs and finishes, so that the system suits every project both technically and visually.
Balustrades are made of tempered or tempered laminated safety glass. Tempered glass has increased mechanical strength and, if broken, shatters into small, blunt fragments without sharp edges. Tempered laminated glass goes further, combining two or more layers of tempered glass permanently bonded with an EVA interlayer — the interlayer holds the fragments in place even after breakage, so the glass retains its residual load capacity and does not fall out of its fixings. As a rule, we choose this option for balustrades at greater heights or under more demanding load conditions, where additional safety matters.
The glass is available in several versions: clear, tinted, enamelled or frosted. Clear glass leaves the view completely open, tinted glass adds a subtle touch of colour and reduces transparency towards the outside, enamelled glass gives a fully coloured, opaque surface, and frosted glass diffuses light and provides privacy while keeping a translucent effect. The choice is made according to the project; the safety and mechanical properties of the glass remain the same in all versions.
The glass build-up — the number of layers and the thickness of each pane and interlayer — is determined individually for each project, based on the balustrade height, the span between supports and the load category, which depends on how the space is used; staircases and public spaces are generally designed for higher loads than residential terraces and balconies. The glass edges are ground and polished at an angle (bevelled), since on balustrades they remain visible and exposed to direct contact. In the point-fixed system, the holes for the fixings are drilled on a CNC machine, exactly to the layout defined in advance in the technical drawing.
